Hard-Drives and Tea

I'm looking for a 1TB external hard-drive and I've been checking out Seagate and Western Digital. Any one here have any familiarity with these companies? I've heard mixed reviews of both companies' customer service. I'm tired of dealing with warranties and crappy customer service. I've had some really top-notch customer service, like my 3-piece ( Read more... )

My husband always says, "Never buy anything but Western Digital."

Re: Hard drives

There's really no best bet. The problem with hard drives is that you are sometimes going to get a bad one and there is nothing you can do about it. Online reviews of hard drives are predominantly made by those who are unsatisfied...

That being said, I've had good luck with internal seagate hard drives, but haven't used their external options.

Just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Ok, 3rd comment, but I just read about a new western digital hard drive called "green power" -- it's supposed to be eco-friendly (and is b/c it uses 40% less electricity, but that's not a lot with a hard drive anyway). More interestingly, it is very quiet. See review:

I have 500 GIGAbytes. Not megabytes.

Western Digital isn't that bad. I've had all brands of HDs fail... I guess it depends on how you intend to use it. If you're transferring shit loads of data everyday, you should find one that can handle it. I've used Maxtor, Seagate, WD... they've all crapped out on me. They're all made to break & screw you over I think. That's why they have 5 year warranties.

I hear that Samsungs are pretty reliable & quiet. You can always build your own by buying an enclosure & sticking an HD in there of your choice.

Oh shut up, you know what I meant.

I had a Maxtor, but I can't find the power cord so it's useless. And it's actually super small. TB baby, TB.
