Bennet has just finished serving a meal to the afflicted in the house when there's a knock at the door.

He grimaces. He doesn't know if Peter would knock, but it seems too soon to have the cure. And there's no one else who would venture out here, so it must be someone else who's sick.

They're running out of beds.

He opens the door to see a man there, one he doesn't recognize. He mentally runs through the list of names, comes up with a few possibilities, decides to wait until the man tells Bennet his name, all in a few seconds.

"Come in," he says, ready to steady the man if he proves to be unstable, in walking. "You're sick, I assume."

"Yes," David says, coughing. He wonders whether the pills he took will do anything to him. He threw up most of them before coming, but he's already beginning to feel sleepy. Luckily, it's almost impossible to overdose on benzodiazepines, really. But they sure as hell can turn you into a vegetable. David shudders. He looks up at Mr. Bennet. Should he say something about it? Bennet already thinks he's stupid - at least so David surmises from his response to David's post to the network - and admitting that he attempted suicide only to change his mind in the last minute would make him look like a complete moron.

So, instead, he says, "I'm David Berman. I'm very grateful for your assistance, Mr. Bennet."

Bennet slides an arm under David's, and helps him inside, to the couch, shutting the door behind them. "I don't see how I could do any other," says Bennet. He isn't about to stand by and watch anyone die from the virus. "I'm glad you chose to come here, instead of trying to weather it on your own. Do you need anything? Water?"

David sinks down on the couch gratefully. He looks up at Mr. Bennet, eyes bright and feverish, and says, "You could have given up. But you didn't. You chose to fight back. That says something about you. These are extraordinary circumstance, circumstances that could ... " He can't quite keep his thoughts straight; his fever must be getting worse. "At any rate, you chose to continue. And that's really something."
