It hadn't taken long for the Defenders to mobilize after Songbird and Daniel had shown up on their doorstep and explain the situation. They had been looking for Cassie ever since she'd run away from home anyway, and the news that she had been kidnapped by Iron Man... Well, it wasn't welcome, but it at least told them where she was ( Read more... )

Superman stands with his arms folded loosely across his chest, unnervingly still, his eyes set at a slow blink. It looks as if he's somewhere else, far away and pleasant, anywhere but in this lobby vexed by this Osborn's gall. He's a damn good actor and it's taking perseverance to remember it.

"Gentlemen, sorry to keep you waiting," Osborn said as he entered his office, impeccably dressed as usual, in a tone of voice that almost make it sound like he was actually sorry even though he wasn't.

"I'd offer you all a drink, but we really should get to business, shouldn't we, given a young girl's well-being is at stake."

Captain America stands, done with his adjustments, and nods to Osborn. He didn't want to be polite to this man, with his perversions of the Justice system and the Avengers name, but... Well, he had to.

"My thoughts exactly, Mr. Osborn." He clasps his hands behind his back. "We just want to see how she's doing. A friend of hers came to us in very bad condition, he'd apparently been with Ms. Lang when your... Iron Man took her away. The way he was acting had the boy concerned, especially when Iron Man apparently shot him out of the sky." His hands tighten a little, gloves creaking slightly.

He'd seen those injuries. And he knew Danny. From the story he'd been told, Danny had stood a good chance of dying thanks to Iron Man's carelessness.

There wasn't a response from Nate. But a few minutes later, he did hit the men's room. He wasn't armored up, he didn't think he needed to be to talk to Jaime.

"Yeah, this'll certainly get Ms. Marvel to stop with the gay jokes," he stated, closing and locking the door behind him.

"I kinda figured you'd call before showing up like this, but today's been a day so full of surprises."

Had that been most anyone else, this conversation would've went south in a hurry. But Jaime was a friend, one of the few real ones he had left.

"I wasn't thinking," he admitted. "I was feeling. She needed help, and I needed to help her.

"She's fine, by the way," he added preemptively. "I'm assuming that was number three. So, four?"
