Bracing for the fallout

Tommy was doing the same thing, with the watching. There was a sort of nervousness that he felt burning in his belly, like fire-winged butterflies that wouldn't let up. Some of this, he knew, was his fault. He'd been a total jerkface to Cassie, and maybe if he hadn't, things wouldn't have played out quite this way.

Tommy glanced at Coat, who seemed a little eager with the current fallout. He bit his lower lip. He felt more anxious than anything else.

He needed Pepto-Bismol, like, stat.

The only thing Teddy's watching right now is the inside of his eyelids. He's taken over a corner and is currently doing breathing exercises that are supposed to keep him calm and centered. The "centered" part is working pretty well, but "calm" is still eluding him.

How could he have missed what was going on with Cassie? He's always been the observant one, how did he miss something like that? And how dare Blake do something like that, and how dare dare Cassie's own mother try to make excuses for him?!

And then on top of that, Nate had to get himself involved. He'd gotten the details from Cassie and Billy, before Billy'd been yoinked back out of the universe, and he was still furious. Nathaniel Richards is wearing Jonas' corpse and saying that he wasn't a person -- as far as Teddy's concerned, that's not Iron Lad anymore, that's well on his way to being Kang.

...Yep, "calm" definitely isn't anywhere in this corner.

Spider-Man shrugged. "Making really, really dumb decisions tends to be an Iron Man trait, but I don't know this one well enough to tell you why."

Peter had been stuck with watching the teens. Mostly to make sure they didn't do anything stupid, but at least in part to make sure he himself didn't do anything stupid either.

As soon as it's lit, Songbird passes along behind him and snatches it away, only to puff at it on her own. "Smoking'll kill you, kid." She settles down on a chair designed for someone a lot heavier than she was.

She leans back in the seat and blows out a long string of smoke. "This isn't your first time dealing with this kind of thing, is it? Tobacco's not what you need to come down off of that."

She hadn't smoked in a long time, but she was making a point. Or something. "You mean like picking fights with fake Avengers? You're gonna have to watch your back if he takes this personally, I've worked with some of the people on his team. They're insane." And even with his phasing abilities, he wouldn't be standing too long.

After a long wait, Cassie finally arrived. She kept her eyes on the floor, glancing up every now and then at her former teammates. She still had one hell of a bruise on the left side of her head but that was days old. And aside from that she was very much unharmed, at least physically.

"Danny?" She asked when she caught sight of him and rushed over to him. "Are you all right? I am so, so sorry..."

Cassie hugged him tight, then realized that she probably shouldn't hug him that tightly.

"Yeah, yeah I'm O.K. God, I am so sorry I had no idea Nate would do that. He's- he's not usually like that."

The tension in Teddy's shoulders immediately dissipates at the sight of Cassie, alive and -- well, not unharmed, but without any fresh bruises. He follows Danny over but waits until she's finished hugging him before he says anything.

"For future reference," he says dryly, "'not looking for' the girl who took on the Super-Skrull for me isn't an option." He smiles at her. "Just so you know."
