She’s sinking down to gray depths, sucking in water. She lets herself sink.
She’s floating through vast space, gasping futilely for air. She lets herself drift.
She’s plummeting off the side of a cliff, racing toward the rising ground. She lets herself fall.
Her lungs collapse. Her head explodes. Her body shatters. She doesn’t care. The sun is shining, beating down in warm comforting rays. A soft breeze ruffles her hair.
When Laura finally wakes up in sickbay, she struggles desperately to pull off the oxygen mask as tears stream down her face. She’d gotten so close to the Shore.
