The Lady Varnishes

Jul 01, 2010 22:53

Whoops, a month and a half went by rather quickly there. RL has (oh please PLEASE please) taken a turn for the better again, but events are in motion and moving at speed. Which means I'll (hopefully) be back in a few weeks after I get my act together and do what I know I must get done. But I'm NOT going to do my disappearing trick again. Sorry for ( Read more... )

No, I need you, Flu!!!!!!!! XO

Lol JK. Sort out everything and come back refreshed :)

PS I went to a lecture by David Shrigley! He seemed like a nice guy who genuinely doesn't know why his work is so popular when he admitted that he does silly things and really can't draw lol.

I'm taking care of business but I'll be good once it's done.

OMG SO JEALOUS!! He's like my idol. Seriously funny guy. And until a few years ago, nobody knew what he looked like. I love the video he did for Good Song by Blur. And 'Who I Am and What I Want'.

FLU!!! It's so great to hear from you! I worried that something bad had happened, and from the sound of it, I guess it did. I'm so sorry about that, and I hope things are going better for you now. I see you've got a "new guy," I will have to look him up on IMDB! So good to 'see' you again! :D

AWW! HELLO! Things were a bit hairy for a while - I'm not totally out of the woods yet but heading in the right direction.

Thanks for thinking about me; I'm sorry for taking off like that, it was tres rude. I hope things are still good on the board. Amazing times there. The last Ian 'thing' I did was listen to the Pickerskill Reports.

That's okay, I know life happens. Sorry that things are still troublesome and hope it improves, though I know things kinda suck all over just now and are not easy to fix.

Pickerskill was a pretty good one! Things on the board are fine, though much quieter than in the past. I saw elsewhere that you lost your password. I know you're not into Ian anymore, but of course you're welcome to re-join if you want to visit or check things out. Meanwhile, it's cool that Sharlto is just starting his film career - you are getting in on the ground floor there, as it were!

Thanks for being understanding; I'd love to stop by when things calm down a bit here. Must go through old paperwork...

Has Ian been in Australia or did I imagine it? Actually, maybe it was Ian McKellen. He will always have a special place in my heart, mainly 'cos of you guys. And B 'marmalade' Charles is still my hero.

Sharlto's kind of a noob at the moment, so he's still fun to watch. He's done one 'indie' film and one 'commercial' film so it'll be interesting to see which way he follows.

I'll be thinking about you and hope you manage to fix everything! :)

I was quite surprised that he is quite young because most famous illustrators aren't lol. There was a huge turnout in the tiny room for the talk in a lecture series that most people ignore lol. But that didn't excuse the verrrry long delay from the hosts for keeping him and everyone else waiting! (Actually I don't know whose fault it was but I'm going to blame uni anyway lol)

If I would have known you were a fan I would have got his autograph! :(

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I might have two bits of good news in a while... if everything goes to plan.

Yeah, I think he's only about 40. I'm so pleased there was a good turnout, he deserves to be well known. Will Self said he knows people who use his drawings as a kind of sense-of-humour litmus test for any potential mates.

Have you had any lectures from other artists you like?

I'm sorry, I'm doing a bit of a Hotel California here, aren't I? I check out but I never leave.

I hope your top secret missions go well! ;)

Really? He looked younger than that! Then, so would I if I made mega-bucks! I used to like Will Self but ever since he said that Paul Merton and Ian Hislop should quit HIGNFY I've gone off him. Apparently, it was because one of Self's jokes didn't go down well on the show and got cut from the televised version, so he's been pouting about it lol.

There was one by a lady originally from India (can't remember her name!) who is into inventing and making things. It was a refreshing change to see a woman into that stuff because boys are stupid. Another famous one was the guy who founded the Designer's Republic. You could see all the fangirls and boys drooling on the floor at the mention of his name. Pathetic.

It's okay. Me and E are having a tiff with Ian at the moment so we're not around much either.
