My Little Pony: now in the badass variety

Feb 05, 2011 16:48

Rewatching the entire series of Avatar: the Last Airbender with some of my friends, only one of whom has not seen it before. It's cool seeing it again, but there is some serious Katara bashing going on that is bugging the hell out of me. I love Katara, but they all just keep calling her names and being annoyed with her. Blah. Very disappointing. ( Read more... )

I really do love Katara, and I love Avatar, but the bashing was severely affecting my enjoyment of the show. Of course, my one friend loves pissing me off and will say shit with the express purpose of making me argue with him, so it's not really surprising that he wouldn't let up after I said that I liked her. And my other friend legit just finds Katara annoying, which, okay, whatever, people have their own opinions and Katara can be preachy or whatever, but between the two of them they just kept going on and on and on. There was just no winning, so I went and watched My Little Pony for a while lol.

Ugh, I hate people who can't just watch something without bashing the crap out of it. I mean, it's one thing when you watch a show or movie with the intention of tearing it to pieces (like in Rifftrax), but to just sit there and pick at a character is incredibly annoying. xP I have to deal with it all the time whenever I watch TV with anyone in my family, no matter what it is.

Well, my one friend is always trying to get a rise out of me, and of course I only ever realize this after the fact. Also, I think he's a little embarrassed to be watching a 'kids' show' so he compensates by making stupid comments constantly. The thing that really got to me is that he kept saying Katara was a whore for having multiple love interests (we watched the Haru episode). Like I said, I'm pretty sure he was mostly trying to get a rise out of me, but he couldn't have picked a better subject if he tried. I hate that sort of shit. I had to leave the room because he would not shut up. Blah.

Ugh, I hate when people make comments like that; it's bad enough to stumble across that kind of stuff on forums, but to have a running commentary of it? Yeah, no thanks.

As for him being embarrassed about watching a kids' show . . . Well, it's his loss. xD

Lol yeah, it's supremely aggravating. That's kind of how our whole relationship is. I just wish I had someone irl that was on the same Avatar wavelength with me. I actually have lots of friends who like the show, but either they don't agree with me (read: don't like Katara) or...idk, it feels weird. Maybe I'm too used to not talking about it outside of fandom. :/

I love love love your icon, btw. :)
