I see you have a sword! I have one too! They're very manly and tough!

I just spent the last hour trying to figure out a narrative ploy for an angel surviving getting stabbed with their own sword.* At first I thought "Hey, it's their own sword, it can't kill them!" But then I remembered that episode that I'd blocked out because it makes me so very sad and haven't been able to rewatch yet despite its awesome gods as ( Read more... )

rock beats laser, fusion powers activate, when all you have is a hammer, do a barrel roll, shut up affably, bringing sexy back, yes this is relevant, castiel kicks ass (as a little girl), angels we have heard are high, the internet is really very great

The angels' swords are more like giant-ass dirks than anything else, though they are two-edged with some kind of fuller, it looks like, and a typical dirk is single-edged. Still, they are about the right shape in profile, aside from the somewhat different hilt proportion. They also kind of remind me (especially when held underhand, because that was the style) of the dueling knives you got in Europe in the middle ages, which were big and pretty stout, with a two-edged triangular blade. I'd venture to say the swords on the show were designed special for it and are not based on anything in particular other than Rule of Cool. Certainly they're not off the shelf: that chrome handle is wildly impractical.

How awesome would it be to see an angel fight with one of these bad boys?

Oh shit yes. I love those.

This definitely helps - yeah I was also looking at pictures of dirks but I kept getting discombobulated because they're so big (in b4 "That's what she said.") So I figured there ought to be a swordish model with that kind of (almost really basic looking) design, but alas.

For all that I really don't need to be thinking about Castiel dueling with other angels in Europe in the Middle Ages I'll have to investigate this since I actually didn't look into knives very much. More research investigating!

It's not chrome it's cherubic angelum okay. But yeah I'd agree that it is rather impractical, they at least look a little balanced? Maybe? Or maybe the props team just decided to have a hell of a good time and screw everyone.

Rule of Cool says we need urumi in this tv series, stat!
