[This morning when Hakoda wakes up, the communicator he's largely been ignoring since he arrived rolls away from the top of his bed and settles on the ground while the video activates conveniently in such a way to spot Hakoda climbing out of his bed. People on the boat, enjoy your brief moments of Hakoda climbing out of bed, grabbing his tunic and ( Read more... )

Why is that no one seems to do that on purpose?

[Because Sokka wants to know HOOOOW.]

Uh.

[He glances back in his room.]

Yeah, you'll be out there a while if I'm gonna clean up, so, come in, I guess?

[The room is pretty well-lived-in now. There are a few different outfits strewn over furniture, Sokka's old boots are thrown in one corner in a heap. There are small collections starting-- golf clubs on the bed, there are a fair number of plastic tooth brushes in a pile, random nick-nacks gathered. There are a few kitchen knives poking out of one drawer of the desk. The one he's been apparently carving his new boomerang with seems pretty dull. The remnants of a chair which the wood for the boomerang came from is in a corner, one leg missing.]

[Hakoda gives the room a critical glance over. Tsk tsk tsk, Sokka. If Katara saw this, you would be so busted!]

So let's see that boomerang.

[What Katara doesn't trip over won't hurt her.]

Right! Uh, it's not really done yet? So, yeah.

[He fetches the thing and hands it to his father. The shape is right, the angle is correct. It's very rough, though, and way too wide to get any kind of lift. It's very heavy, still, rough-hewn and no were near completion. There's some rough hatching on one end where Sokka was trying different types of knifes to smooth it out.]

[Hakoda takes it and inspects it. Sokka is right, of course. There's quite a bit left to do on it.]

This is impressive workmanship, Sokka. You've really come a long way, haven't you?

You really think so?

[You just MADE HIS DAY. His eyes light up with delight.]

I mean, yeah, I'm happy with how it's turning out? But I've got to find some rocks or something to sand it with. The knives aren't really cutting it there.

[Maybe he can ask Toph for-- WAIT. He suddenly runs over, leans across his bed and retrieves a stone club from the other side.]

I might be able to use this.

[Don't mind him, he's just thinking aloud with you here.

[Please, please. No applause. All in a dad's work. Get it? Dad? Day? Similar word structure! It's a pun! A PUN!]

Where did you get that? [He doesn't have any clubs at all, stone or golf!]

Oh, this? Toph made it for me from some rock, from somewhere.

[Hold on, he's gonna sand the living daylights out of one side of the boomerang.]

[Just watching you man. Not like he came to visit. Or hang out. Or go on a father and son fishing trip like the old days. No no, go ahead. Do your carving thing. He doesn't mind.]
