there are many things that one can enjoy alone, which are even more fun to explore together... like yoga, for instance! ;~}

Oddly enough, wikipedia mentions that "the Ottoman Empire's relatively high degree of tolerance for ethnic differences (q.v. Millet) proved to be one of its greatest strengths in integrating the new regions until the rise of nationalism (this non-assimilative policy became a weakness during the dissolution of the empire that neither the first or second parliaments could successfully address)."

So, are we to learn from this that a benevolent dictator, philosopher king, or wise caliph can be an effective means of government up to a certain point; but eventually, the empire will crumble from schism?

Although I understand that Meritocracy has been difficult to define, much less enforce, throughout the ages; I tend towards Egalitarian goals & methods, myself.

Amusingly enough, I had almost finished composing a response to your post, earlier; but my computer crashed while I was reading this fascinating text: Jesus, Voltaire and Prometheus: the Essence of Sociology (Current Orthodoxy that Keeps Waters troubled), by C.W. Rietdijk, D.Sc

For the purpose of communicating with his audience, many of whom still think the President has any spine

Actually, I think by using the harsh language his does, Olbermann is trying to get the public to open it's eyes and begin the fight themselves.

indeed, not only the oval office and the entire system of crooked lawyers, greedy finance capitalists, & the whole body of corporate stockholders whom they represent...

every single person who participates in a social system will be held accountable for their own actions. people are even responsible for the actions of their government to the extent that they benefit from that affiliation! the civilian public and industries get caught in the crossfire between warlords, sometimes.

but at the risk of sounding like a new age healer at a political protest (ahem) maybe, rather than fighting, we could all learn to understand and respect one another's will?!!! (perhaps we may all learn to treat one another as brother & sister, without kinstrife"``Thou hast no right but to do thy will. Do that and no other shall say nay. For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect ( ... )
