The Sky is Falling... Save Your Bacon!

During Burning Flipside 2007's First Work Weekend (WWI) @ Flat Creek, we laid out the footprint of our effigy (does this remind anyone else of the Maginot Line?) ...and right before I left, I consulted the I Ching at the center of the effigy space (The Axis Mundi: nexus at the center of our world, where microcosm & macrocosm become one)

The first ( Read more... )

Q: If you were in an arcade that enabled you to design ritual for yourself without money or electricity... then what would you use, instead of currency, to play?

Orgone energy, of course.

absolutely!
this past friday, at Soup, kreneezoner & i were talking about how Orgone Energy (aka Chi/Qi/Ki, Prana/Kundalini/Ojas, etc.) can be used to control the weather... i guess we'll have to figure out how to reverse the polarity 'cause it rains every year @ Flipside.

But we do all in fact already experience our existence within an "arcade" so to speak and indeed with each of us enabled to "design ritual" as our natural endowment. Those among us who do so consciously... "instead of currency, to play" use love.

indeed, i once participated in an extensive conversation about love vs. currency...

i am so glad you recognize that we are each our own "arcade" ...and now i want to see what happens when we network the games in our respective "arcades" with one another & experiment playing with this "ritual design" through exchanging love with one another!

So I can't make it to flipside this year, but as per our most recent conversation, here is my idea for a theme camp at flipside or BM

The Temple of Hypocritical Mediocrity

This has nothing to do with your post, sorry.

hmmmmm, I wonder if that's too broad a subject... perhaps more of a single-interest theme camp might be more effective?

I have to give Ian Quinn credit for coming up with the original epithet (referring to any burn event, from regional festivals, to the big burn in NV); but the theme camp that I have always wanted to sponsor is:

Swarm of White Kids!

Of course, the camp would have to be populated by as ethnically diverse a group as could be brought together at any given time, but all "white" people would have to paint their faces, or wear masks, or something...

Seriously though, perhaps a camp such as this could explore why burn culture is primarily white... and what the Hell does "white" mean, anyway?

Here's a brief article from SFGate referencing the situation @ BM: 'Inclusive' is illusive for burners

There's a couple of great replies to this scathing satirical review, "Achtung Hippie!," from a first-time attenddee of BM2007... here are a few excerpts from replies that are excellent reads in their entirety:

Give the topic of rituals how about the currecy of truisms? Each participant would impart his or her words of wisdom as currecy to take part in the rituals perhaps in the form of a few lines of prose(yours or others), spontaneous poetry, famous (or infamous)quotes, sage advice, or any other well crafted, writty, or profound string of words.

...an excellent suggestion!

One of the main strengths of "Paganism," is the ability to spontaneously compose rituals, "de novio," as pointed out by Sam Webster... whose speech, "Ritual, Magick & How Pagans will Save the World," was a major inspiration for me to seek out a group of people with whom to share spirituality... and in this quest, I ended up remeeting many local burners through recreating the mojo_meeting! During the Mojo Meetings, we often did just this sort of sharing offerings with each other... and we were assisted by a talking-stick like device, in the form of a "Spooky" squeak toy!

This sort of exchange... sharing wisdom with one another... is exactly the sort of thing that i have been thinking would be really fun @ Flipside, too... and I have also wanted to take these words of wisdom & modulate them... whether done in the surrealist fashion, like a literary version of the exquisite corpse or the cut-up technique... or even finding our own wisdoms/truths in observation of the patterns in nature, such as in Renku (linked verse)I ( ... )
