I haven't been around much lately. Kinda in a funk, but don't know why. Perhaps it started on the weekend. A male Downy Woodpecker flew into our dining room window. The dogs went crazy trying to get to it, but fortunately I was able to get them into the house before that happened. Unfortunately, the little bird didn't make it. I think it's neck was

She is, but she is so very thin. It's even more evident now that she is shaved. I'm thankful that they were able to help her though. I'm sure that she is much more comfortable without the mats.

I am glad Polly is improving with her new hair cut - I did some looking around for bird safety options for you and found a couple ideas.

http://www.flap.org/residential.php < has some good ideas - including hanging ribbons to dangle, keeping blinds close or using something like this ultraviolet decal http://www.windowalert.com which apparently birds can see vividly but doesn't really obstruct our vision.

Big windows are so pretty for the light they let in but they obviously have some issues.

Cool! Thank you for the suggestions. We've got the blind part way down but I really like the decal idea.
