Let's rephrase that. Let's say "the farther away things are from us, the faster we observe our separation increasing". The standard phrasing encourages misunderstandings about the nature of the universe's

Is that actually true? I would have thought that everything was moving apart at the same rate, and that therefore the distance something was from us wouldn't matter.
