the whole "we share a much more profound bond/i wasn't going to mention it" exchange was there for the single purpose of cockteasing us mercilessly. and we ate it up. D;

and cas just grabbing dean and cutting his palm like he does shit like all the time - oh god that too did things to me. and i'm not even into bloodplay usually

I thought it was funny how little Dean protested. At first he was all "Ow! Why!? :(" then Cas said he needed human blood and he Dean was just like "OH OK :D No prob!" lol

dean is obviously used to cas being all proprietary and pushy with him. still, it never hurts to ask first, cas. at least in front of other people.

Which means Castiel does not think Sam is human -
this is significant.

(Like, come on, I DIDN'T MEAN TO BRING IT UP. STOP FUCKING WITH US, EDLUND. Have them make out already geez goddamn wtf.)

I KNOW!

Dean and Castiel are so badass and adorable at the same time!

Sam (Who now has no business whatsoever critiquing Dean's previous or current sexual behavior)

Um, yeah. This.

SERIOUSLY. Sam Winchester gets to keep his mouth shut about this from now on.

everything that Cas is: badass, socially inept, completely lacking in patience with respect to anything resembling stupidity ... and involved with Dean on some level that was probably just mentioned for the specific purpose of torturing us.

This whole paragraph, really.

I practically waxed lyrical about how this is Castiel fully realized in my own journal: he's finally owned his own free will (although he's not so on board with the free will of others (respecting boundaries has never been in his repertoire - not even personal space boundaries)) and gotten back his mojo and what we've got now is a Castiel that is a delicious blend of seasons 4 and 5; he understands the moral implications of his actions but has no time for that, he's back to taking zero shit and zero cues from Dean, he's still broken-hearted over his family and he's still trying to do something about that but now he's free to try without facing angel!prison consequences. (The business end of Raphael's sword, on the other hand ...) It's really interesting and intense ( ... )

This exactly. And whilst I loved Cas in both seasons, to have a mixture of them both has made him even more of a BAMF.

Ep 3 was by far the best of the season so far because it felt a lot like old times, with the trio dynamic and a sort of close-ended story. Dean and Cas' relationship is as complex as ever and we've got a nice new angel buddy for Cas. Sam is still frustratingly and annoyingly weird but hey ho, can't win 'em all.

There were a bazillion things that made me go all *raises eyebrow a la Spock* because they seem to be Incredibly Important To The New Overall Plot, and yet my head kept getting stuck in: bare-chested!Dean/bare-chested!Sam/CASisBACK/"Special bond"/Sam ig gonna cry because Cas didn't answer him/dude, calling three times is kind of desperate, maybe he thinks you're getting too clingy?/they remembered the tattoo!!/hmm, bare-chested!Sam... and start all over again.

PS: Balthazar (and how sad is it that I kept expecting Julian McMahon?) totally gave Cas vibes, right? Like "Yeah, you dumped me for the hairless ape, so now I'm trying to figure out what you saw in humans, suck it!"
Or was that just me?

That is a great description, and I am looking forward to B/C/D triangle subtext this season. ^^

Yes, it was kind of difficult processing the "important shit is happening here" stuff alongside the OH MY GOD HOW FUCKING HOT IS DEAN WINCHESTER and OH MY GOD HOW FUCKING HOT IS CASTIEL??? moments.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Oh, aesc, I was worried they wouldn't invest in this character, like they kept Misha because hey, Misha's great and Castiel's fun comic relief, but they wouldn't progress him very much. He had an arc in S5 but it was really wobbly, and they left things with Dean and Castiel that left me feeling crushed. This episode made up for so much, and I really hope it does set the pace in terms of how Castiel is going to get written this season. I love that they've managed to return him to full BAMFyness, a touch of S4 Cas, and yet they haven't, as I feared, retconned his emotional development. Misha is knocking it out of the park showing that Cas is feeling far more than he did the last time he was fully powered up. Misha, your faaaaaace. <3<3

This was such a fantastic episode for him. It's almost a reminder--not that we needed one--about exactly what Castiel is like, what drives him, his personality, everything. And how the hell Misha can go from hilarity (my "people skills" are "rusty") to stone-cold and deadly (kicking that angel's ass in the apartment)... no clue how he does it, but I'm so glad he can!
