.fic: Negotiating Shadows - Teyla, team (PG)

Jan 05, 2008 01:26

Tag to 4.11 "Be All My Sins Remembered," so spoilers for that (obviously).

Teyla-centric, with generous side of team and dash of McKay/Sheppard if you would like.

The shadows make him flat and dangerous, and she thinks that this man in front of her right now is the man most others fear. )

sga:fic.team, sga:fic.ep-tag, sga:fic.canon, sga:fic.teyla!

Oh Teyla, having to be the rational, calm, leader to the boys, to her family. And John being so very John. He means well, he's just got a crazy protective streak a mile wide. Ronon's gonna smack him some as well.

<3!

Yeah, someone has to get on John about that. I mean, the scene is perfectly in character, so perfectly so I was really kind of angry for Teyla and mad at John for saying some of the things (okay, most of the things) he did.

I mean, "Is this a joke?" is not the tactful thing to say to a woman when she tells you she's pregnant.

No, it's not tactful at all, however it was so very, very human. The shock and then suddenly the realization of what was being said. He'll be eating crow, and if it isn't Ronon who smacks him, or Rodney, or Teyla, it'll be himself who finally brings him to her door to apologize.

Oh, yes, definitely! I think tact is something we force on ourselves, and John was very much reacting in the moment--and that was believable, and what made it so effective (and why I wanted to smack him nonetheless *g*) And I think he will apologize for how he said what he said, and maybe for some of the actual meaning, but I don't think he'd go back on wanting to make sure Teyla's safe, and being upset that she didn't trust him enough to tell him.

He is very awesome, which does not manage to keep you from being more so.

"We'll have Marines along with us," John interrupts.

"--which is the same as going off alone. I will stay behind."

Really loved those lines. You really grasped Teyla's anger over John's reaction and I loved how you kept her true..this is a different culture and the values John placed upon protecting her and her baby may not be the same. The sparring scene she was so in control....so very Teyla.

On the other hand she did lie to Sheppard for over two months....I think he felt hurt at her inability to trust him. John doesn't allow people to get close to him and I'm sure he felt he'd been wronged by her omission and very hurt as well.

I felt his actions were right, he is responsible for her, but it really was the wrong time and place to have that type of conversation.

This was really though a beautiful piece. Loved Rodney's reaction so him and I hope we'll see it on screen.

Thank you!

On the other hand she did lie to Sheppard for over two months....

I think she said just under two of the three months. Which is quibbling, I know :D (But I guess it makes her omission slightly less glaring, time-wise?)

I completely get where John's coming from, and I think he is hurt--but you're right, too, that what he said really didn't need to be said right then, or in the way he said them. Of course, this is John we're talking about, and I don't think it could have happened any other way; he'd still freak if she told him over coffee, or woke him up at midnight.

Yes! Thank you! That's exactly the reaction I wanted to see on screen from Teyla, after she had time to collect herself. *happy sigh* Excellent story, thank you!

Thank you so much! I really hope we get Teyla "talking" to John, or at least John coming around to realize that some of what he said was really... stuff that should not have been said (or not have been said in that way). And then team solidarity!

I seriously, seriously hope for Rodney's reaction, though judging from next week's previews, we may not get it :( But I just love the thought of him researching pregnancy and child-raising and becoming progressively more horrified the more he learns, but still trying to help in his completely awkward Rodney way :)

Oh, oh yes. I have more coherent thoughts about this, but they're not coming at this hour of the night, so suffice it to say that for me and my viewing of the episode, this fits perfectly seamlessly with the characters and *why* they acted the way they did. Perfect.

Thank you so much! I wrote this as a way to get the episode straight in my head, and to say something else other than HIT HIM TEYLA HIT HIM :D
