I need a large capacity external hard drive. My last one fried. I wants a good one. Looking at 100-200GB range. Can I get a recommendation for brands and pricing?

Thanks, folks...

I had a Maxtor OneTouch that was an utter piece of crap. I've also made a couple myself by buying a $30 enclosure and an ordinary hard drive and been very happy with that approach.

This is a grand idea. The last external drive that I bought crapped out too early, too.

More companies are selling the enclosures separately now. Check Newegg for both the enclosure and the drive. The prices there should be close to the best available.

I'm partial to Western Digital drives, personally.

Okay, I can't remember the brand of my fried drive, but I did the convert a hard drive to an external thing... that's what I did, and it fried. Could have just been the brand though.

I recommend some 250GB External Storage HD with a five year warranty.

Oh? You already have one? Hmm.. well glad I could offer you my advice.

No, no.. there's no need to pay me for it. You've had me over for food more than enough times. I may even still owe you.

Well, if you're going to be that insistent, I won't settle for anything more than even.

Seagate has improved whereas Maxtor and other no namers are a pain in the rear. I have a Western Dig that serves me well. With an internal one of 150GB and the external of 500GB I am set for a littlewhile anyways.
