After all of that homework and those chores his mum made him do (even though he said he was busy!), Sora isn't in any fit mood to do anything but lie in his bed and sulk. Being eleven is hard work, and he shouldn't be expected to do so much in one day (and stay indoors!) when all he really wants to do is see his friends and play by the beach

Sand has this wonderful tendency of masking footsteps, due to its granular, ever-changing nature. Especially when one walks lightly to begin with.
Kairi never needs to ask where Sora is, she just knows. It's an ability she's never questioned. Why should she? Sora is like a star, his presence shines to her like a beacon, no matter where he is.
Making no noise at all, she drops down onto the sand beside him.

She has a miraculous way of making his frustration just melt away, making everything seem okay again.
"Hi," he says.

She digs her bare toes into the sand, until her feet are buried up to the ankles.
"Have a bad day?" she asks.
