Glad you thought it was fun, it turned out a little more serious than I expected it to as I expected it to be complete and utter crack. It's also something of a departure for me to put more than 1 OC in a fic, never mind 6 of them (7 if you include the ex-head of T4).

When Ace arrives, Mitch will be ecstatic to be passing command over to someone else, particularly a someone else who gets the explosive and gun thing, even if she does make him nervous. Initially I thought he might get blown up with the slug to get him out of the way for when Ace arrived, but the muses informed me otherwise, which pleased me. Having said that I couldn't see Ace just walking into the Torchwood 4 leadership unless none of the rest of them really wanted to be leader in the first place!

Tech as 'babies' is in NCIS too, but it just seems to really help make the tech more like a member of the team, don't you think?

We've never had an explanation for why Torchwood 4 disappeared and Space Slugs just seemed such a *Whovian* reason. I kept on remembering those maggots from the Jon Pertwee story The Green Death (which I saw in black and white as we didn't have a colour TV).
