Books: Shetterly, Brosh, Jemisin, and A. Brontë

I'm still trying to catch up on books, and as I've said before, I can no longer remember when I read some or in what order. But I remember that I read them, and I even remember what I think about them, and those are the important things!

Hyperbole and a Half is tremendous - and very close to the bone.

Oh, yeah. I nod a lot at it.

Oooh, now, this is some great reading!

I thought the movie version of Hidden Figures was very well done, despite (unsurprisingly) taking some liberties, but I do think reading the book (perhaps after seeing the movie) is even better for anyone who is interested in the people and the history involved.

And the Dreamblood books are the only Jemison I've read so far, a state of affairs I really, really need to rectify. If they're actually less polished than her other stuff, I'm prepared to be very impressed, indeed, because I thought they were terrific.

I enjoyed the movie Hidden Figures, but I was a little shocked at how far they went creating a White Hero who never existed-and having Katherine run across the whole campus to use the Colored restroom when in fact she simply used the nearest women's room the whole time.

I've read three series by Jamison, and your mileage may vary (of course), but I thought the Inheritance Trilogy (Kingdoms) was better and the Broken Earth just mind-bendingly good. The only bad thing was that I finished The Stone Sky, the last book in the Broken Earth, shortly before the hurricane, and I just couldn't bring myself to read any more fiction for a few days despite being trapped indoors one whole day because I just wasn't ready to move on!
