There is nothing in this announcement on io9 which makes me happy:Variety reports that Reeves will take the role of Spike Spiegel, one of the two leads in the series that followed the bounty hunter crew of the spaceship Bebop through space in the year 2071. It's hard to think of someway it wouldn't. This may suck even worse than the eventual live-action Ghost in the Shell film, though perhaps not as badly as Dragonball: Evolution. I still have hopes for James Cameron's 3-D Battle Angel project, should it ever actually happen.

Unfortunately, yes. It's being produced by DreamWorks, as Stephen Spielberg is apparently a fan. Here's the scoop from early last year (and the original article from Variety). I'm not happy about it, since I think so many people that aren't Stephen Spielberg could do a better job, particularly after the disaster War of the Worlds was.
