If it's so vital, you can keep that to yourself. There's plenty else we can find to talk about. . .
[True to her word, she's shuffling into the tea rooms some ten minutes later. Her onyx N7-plated armor provides stark contrast to the elegance in every direction, and if Shepard had her way, she'd rather they meet in the barracks. At least she has more maneuverability here.]
[Far from enjoying a quiet cup, Isabel is barefoot and has tucked her skirts up above her knees. She's sweeping, but at the sight of who she assumes to be Shepard, she straightens and gives the other woman's armour a once-over - if it is indeed armour.]
You have reason to believe you will need armour while meeting me?
[She smiles. A thin, humorless thing, and it vanishes as fast as it appears. Shepard's protected hands clasp together behind her back, and her spine goes ramrod-straight as per her usual "briefing" stance.]
Yup. I believe in nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I have to ask if you'd be willing to part with the books on those encounters you mentioned to him. Could save you a lot of grief from the others.
[Isabel returns the smile, though there's no mirth in it; the books remain free for anyone to peruse, as fruitless a venture as that may be.]
The books are in the library, or else in Rem's care. You may ask him for them, for all the good that it will do. Their jackets remain, but the contents were damaged beyond repair some time ago.
[Shepard jerks her chin to show her acknowledgment. There'll still be follow-through, but her hopes won't be gotten up. A chill has crawled up her neck.]
How long ago? When did the first guests of the Keep stay?
[Like anything else told to a skeptic, Shepard takes the tidbit of intel with a grain of salt, but she is the last person to look a proverbial gift horse in the mouth. She shifts, adjusting herself when the hardsuit presses uncomfortably on her elbow.]
I'd like to know what happened to the ones who came before us, if you can share as much.
I have never experienced an earth day, but I gather the two are near enough for the difference to go unnoticed.
[She spared a glanced for the side door which stood ajar, allowing a shaft of afternoon sunlight to lengthen across the floor.]
As for those who have come before, that I cannot tell you. I was not there. You will most likely find those who were either cannot or will not speak of it.
[Dust tickles the inside of her nose. Shepard wills the itch to begone, nostrils flaring.]
Righteo. Is there anything we, as the Keep guests, can do to speed reconstruction along? I know I'm not the only one feeling like penned cattle. If you can give us direction, a purpose beyond 'stay put and be quiet'. . .
As opposed to the unknown benefit of keeping records in the first place. Are they meant for whoever comes after us? If so, do they have any other purpose?
We need to have a chat, you and I.

Shepard dips her head respectfully.]
It's not you, ma'am. I like having a hard shell when I don't know what's around the next corner.

A good decision. You have seen my exchange with your team-mate, then?

That, I do not know. I was not here. I can tell you that I have been chatelaine for more than one thousand days. That is all.

[Isabel stops. She glances aside and purses her lips before looking back and correcting herself.]
In fact there is something that all of you can do.
Keep records.

I can do that. What will we lose if we don't?
[Maybe asking about the cons will see more results than asking about the pros.]

You lose nothing. The journal may react poorly, but it should not cause you harm.
