My Mom's kind of Fairy Tale

Mar 20, 2008 08:42

Thanks to Netflicks and LittleOne's abiding love for princess movies, we're currently in possession of Enchanted, which is the Disney movie I always wished they made when I was a teenager and just getting sick of st00pid fairy tales. It makes fun of every fairy tale cliche and breaks them all. It features a non-princess princess who learns to think ( Read more... )

Silly Mommy.
We have that book too. But what my daughter likes better is the "I just Forgot" with the same characters.

And because girls do like to be princesses we're doing a last minute marketing blitz for the first weekend in April for princesses to come stay at the Inn and enjoy a royal tea, fancy primping, (I insist on storytime), fancy dinner, and dancing.
The older moms & dad on staff insist boys aren't allowed. I can't wait for the arguments in May when we do the Pirate version and teh girls want to be pirates too. Just wait for the double-standard.

The Mother of a Girly Girl pastorhezzy March 20 2008, 16:20:38 UTC
As much as I hate to admit it, I am the mother of a girly girl extraordinaire :) The interesting thing is that she did it on her own. She chooses her own clothes, and always chooses pink, she has tools and dishes and always chooses to play with the dishes. My one saving grace is that when you ask her what Daddy's do she says, "Daddies rock babies and make pancakes." Ah, the joys of growing up with a stay at home dad.

Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever seen a bit of "Intentional Parenting" be effective. It always seems to be the subtle tactics like, "oh here's a book I think you might like" that get into a kid's head.

By the way, hi Aunt Celeste! Good to see you here.

lol yea seriously. that's what i was going to say (about the dresses and the clips and the horror about bug-munching and whatnot).

there's hope.

p.s. did you know that a while ago little boys used to be dressed in pink, and girls in blue? but they changed it because they thought red was too stimulatory of a color for boys to wear. go figure.

Happy Easter!

Yours is of the preaching and then napping variety, while I'm baking spring bread and watching an 8-month-old "hunt" for eggs, but I hope they're equally fresh and fun.

Love,
Lissa
