An Afternoon Lesson, Part Two

*is dead from exams* But though I have shuffled off this mortal coil, I did manage to find some time first to finish the edits on this next installment. This picks up right where we left off in the previous part, one post below.

*staggers away--to sleep, perchance to stop quoting famous, over-used lines from Hamlet*

Ohoohoho! That's so exciting! I'm very much intrigued by your explanation on the origins of Dark Magic and Morass is sooooooooooooooo smooth while trying to smoothly convince Godric into doing it. !__@ Nnnnoooooo, Godric! Think of Salazar! And poor Godric, being kept such a close watch one by his family. Did they suspect he would ever use dark magic?

And I love the hair ribbon gift from Salazar. So subtle, yet so protective and then the creeepy yet awesome entrance of Salazar! *cheers*

Woo! Once more, great job! <3

Hopefully the explanation wasn't too dry. :) I hate writing long blocks of expository dialogue, and I'm forever paranoid that it reads like a textbook to others, because that's often how it feels to me. I like the concept of "dark magic" being a rather amoral, neutral construct--somewhat like the contractual relationships the Romans and other ancient civilizations held with their gods. If you do this, I'll give you that.... Except not quite as capricious as the Greek/Roman pantheon. :)

It's certainly difficult being the youngest (Cassandra excepted), but it's hardly as though Godric hasn't given his family ample reason to be paranoid about what he gets up to. It's a wonder his father hasn't gone grey by the time Nullifier comes around! Davin certainly suspected, but that's because he doesn't trust Salazar not to introduce Godric to something like that. The rest of the family, probably not ( ... )

Oh of course! Morass isn't just spying out Godric's abilities and attempting to lure him into the dark arts and his service. He's punishing Salazar for skipping his lesson by tainting his anchor ... Why else wouldn't he nullify the hairband's alarms! ... Right? ... A truly fascinating character!

I'm also curious about those other two Oaths Godric has taken. Is it normal for wizards to take that many, or is he generally a bit rash with it?

Ah, you've got it. Yes, there are more than enough lessons to go around for everyone in this story, and Salazar's is worse than most. Though tainting Salazar's anchor is more an unexpected and unfortunate side-effect of Morass' lesson plan, one that gets him into considerable trouble later and is at the core of the second "part" of the story.

Most wizards don't take two Oaths in their entire lifetime, let alone two before they're even out of their apprenticeship. But then, most wizards don't get themselves into the situations Godric finds and even fewer are friends with a Slytherin. (One of the Oaths he swore to Salazar, though I think Salazar regretted it later.) So yes, he is rather rash--rash and trusting. There's a reason Oaths have fallen into disuse by Harry's time.

I had a feeling that'd be it. He is Godric after all.

Oh, I completely understand; last week was a merry hell of exams for me. Play rehearsals, eh? Good luck with those! :)

And I can hardly complain, since it looks like the next piece won't make it up tonight, though it will definitely be up tomorrow. Hope life calms down a bit for you.

Hah, I really should be more careful with my promises. I underestimated how much work the next part needs; I am paranoid beyond all reason about emotionally charged scenes, and this part is almost entirely that ( ... )

haha!! I love it!
I'm from the country, and I live near a lake, so leaches are nothing new to me, and the thought of such a, well, important wizard being so freaked out by one is just funny!
And I just sense Morass testing him like this half because it's funny, and half to test him and his own powers to see what he can do to get rid of it. Ulterior motives seem to be everywhere with this guy!

And, in regards to your promises of updates, I noticed you conveniently didn't leave any day in particular for when the next part will start coming out.... haha

Oh, and sorry about the double posting, it was an accidenr! If you can delete posts, feel free to delete one of them so they don't make it look too excitng. You were probably all excited about getting so many new comments!
