Heck, I'm old enough to remember Nixon and Watergate although I wasn't old enough to really understand what was going on. I remember when Ronald Reagan joked that he'd just declared it illegal to be a Soviet and the bombers had been ordered to fly. I remember the attempted coup when the Soviet Union fell and the generals were trying to get the briefcase with the nuclear codes from Gorbachev, who had hand-cuffed the briefcase to himself and who was really, really stubborn.
And my husband was born right, smack-dab in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis. (He's always had a sense for dramatic timing.)
