This 'n' That (aka: The Hobbit and Medical Insurance)

The last couple of days have definitely proven interesting. I've been to see The Hobbit (and in 3D, after promising myself I'd only try 2D,) learned that my "almost-not-quite-officially-adopted" son from Tennessee is gonna spend a couple of weeks with us over the holidays, and finally finished the application for health insurance required by the ( Read more... )

You know, I'm loving these reviews of the Hobbit from people that actually enjoyed it. I didn't, for reasons mostly to do with what I call crimes against Tolkien. But seeing everyone else's excitement is, well, exciting.

I also am so glad for you with insurance. Go you! Sorry the site was such a mess, but I know what you mean about feeling like you finally have good insurance, what that can mean for peace of mind. And $65/months is really not a whole lot when you consider deductibles and copays; you could blow through that much if you saw a doctor every 2-3 months, I imagine.

Well, I expected to really dislike Tauriel, and ended up loving her. She's feisty, demonstrates a distinct tempering of respect for authority, and generally raises hell, but very efficiently. Her kindness toward Kili I also really liked.

Thranduil was marvelous - almost creepy. I adored the Fortress, the little touches that made it so very elven, not just a hole under the mountain. I agree that the dragon-wound probably was unnecessary, but I'll reserve judgment until I see where PJ is going with this.

Smaug was WONDERFUL. Creepy, slinky, sinuous, and oh so interesting to listen to. I adore dragons and wouldn't mind him joining my crew at all.

I had a lot of problems with the first movie, but surprisingly few with the second. Oh well, different strokes for different folks makes the world an interesting place.

I hope you and your extended family have a wonderful Solstice and subsequent holiday season and I'll talk at you in the New Year. Miss you already!
