Omigod!! My Muse has returned!!!

*Once more Aearwen pokes her head out of the sands of lurkerdom*Evidently a conference at the local Theosophical community of Halcyon was what my writing muse needed to really kick it into gear. After being completely deluged with musical obligations - from piano/organ duets to giving a talk on "Harmony and Spirit" to being the accompanist for a ( Read more... )

That's great news! I'm not into Doctor Who but if you've any questions about British idiom, just ask.

In my LOTR reading of stories by writers in the USA, the things that sound oddest to me are wash up, to get washed, here it means wash dishes and pants for trousers, here it usually means underwear.

There are a number of things I've tripped over:

1.What is meant by "jumper" - is it a sweater, a sweatshirt, what? Can't be a t-shirt, can it?

2.What is a "berk" - is it another way to say "jerk" (someone who is crude, rude, socially unacceptable, his feet stink and he farts in public)? If not, what?

3.When does one use "loo" as opposed to "rest room" or "bathroom", and is there another way commonly used to refer to "the facilities"?

*sigh*

I'll get it eventually, probably more through making mistakes and getting called on them than anything else, I suppose...

A jumper is a knitted sweater. It can't be a T shirt, might occasionally be used for a sweatshirt.

Berk is An idiot. Similar in tone to 'prat', 'prick', 'twat' or similar.
We almost always use "loo", never rest room or facilities. When you are out you usually visit "the ladies" and the men go to the "gents."

Ask me any time, I'm happy to help.

Thanks, Sykira! Have debated posting it in here to the Doctor-Donna community, but (as I say above) am intimidated by the fact I speak "'merican" and not British English, and it shows.

How comes the last chappie of "By Proxy"? Love that one... :-D

I can't speak to posting it on the comm as I have seen people get attacked for the odd non-brit expression but you should post on your own LJ at least so those of us who love your writing can see it!

By Proxy is done, I did want to do an NC17 follow up and still might someday but I got distracted by writing other NC17 stuff! I'm not sure if you saw the last one? I get nervous leaving them unlocked so that one is on a filter.

Glad to hear your muse has returned! :) Mine is long MIA. I've about given up on her. Not that I have much inclination to sit still long enough to write. If my butt is parked, it's usually parked on my horse. ;P

Just enjoy the time away from your Muse - no doubt when she returns, she'll be an absolute slave-driver. She's still building webs on your front porch, right? :-D

Miss yakking with you, but glad to see you're still keeping up here.

Glad to hear that your Muse has returned, dear, and gotta say I'm looking forward to the Doctor Who fic. :)

Unfortunately, my Muse is hibernating somewhat deeply, though I do have a couple of Primeval adventures in mind right now.
