Oh, god. I HATE anaphylactic reactions. I live in terror of them. Not all the time, but I think the possibility lurks at the back of my mind whenever I'm eating, drinking, or taking a new medication or supplement.
I didn't use to worry that much... most strawberry flavor is artificial, so even in the few instances in which I've encountered it by accident, I had no reaction. This is the first time I've come across something that shouldn't have had ANY strawberry AND it was natural. What's frightening is how quickly I reacted to it... no warning at all. Usually, my skin will start to itch, I'll get some hives and a warm feeling and I have plenty of time to get medication. Not this time; I went from zero to throat closing in less than forty seconds. It means that the allergy has gotten much more intense. Clark and I are going to get some epi-pens from my doctor at my next appointment. Since the allergy has taken this turn, if it happens again, we will need the pen... there won't be time for someone to go to the 7-11!
Sugar potentiates allergic reactions, my doc told me. You were eating Chinese food, if I remember? A meal high in sugar, with some msg thrown in along with some caffeine if you were drinking tea, would maximize your chances of having a strong allergic reaction.
