Fear of Life

For three years I worked terrible, awful office jobs merely trying to survive. I was scared to death to run out of money and kept trying desperately to find "ways out" of a mediocre and depressing professional existence. I continued to justify this life I led by lashing out at the economy, difficult conditions for post-college Psych majors, ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear you got an internship already. Even though I got my degree in comp sci I feel one of the biggest mistakes I made was looking looking enough into internships during school. While it's true what you said that everyone needs a tech-savvy guy, it's also the case that most people want a tech-savvy guy with "real world" experience and because of not having internships on my resume I'm caught in the catch-22 of needing experience to get a job and needing a job to get experience.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant/vent in your LJ (well, a little bit, but think I got a bit carried away :p)

Hey Dave,

Where are you working at the moment? I'm glad I am getting some internship possibilities too. I like the program here because you get many projects throughout your year and get to meet up with employers during a few conventions while still in school. It's pretty much required that you take outside projects.

Definitely agree on the "real world experience" thing. Once you get out it seems like everyone is looking for 2 years experience of this, 3 years of that... it makes you wonder how anyone gets any jobs at all!

Don't worry - rants are always welcome!

I feel like I'm being pointed at in this, at least two things you said have to do with me... I don't like being indirectly lectured at in a LJ..

Everything I wrote about here is an experience I have had, except for the enneagram/fear of authority thing. I had hypochondria in my late teens.
