Weight Training for Martial Arts

I'm looking for a strength training regimen specifically focused on athleticism, retaining flexibility, and adding power and speed without adding too much bulk. Specifically I'm a striking based martial artist and I'm looking for exercises that will help me enhance how hard and fast I can hit as well as upping my general level of athleticism ( Read more... )

Strength with no bulk? go with resistance training, its mostly the same motions and exercises as with weight training, but use bands and/or machines that work with a pully and cable. Basically don't use any weights directly and don't use anything where you fighting against gravity but the machines resistance.

All right, that sounds mostly good. I'm actually very familiar with weightlifting, but I was wondering if I could get your opnion on an exercise like the power clean, do you think it would be more or less helpful than other comparable exercises? I was also wondering if you had used plyometrics before and if so what results you felt they provided?

I do Taekwondoe. I'm actually specifically curious as well as to how helpful one of my favorite exercises, the power clean is. I'd also be interested in what your veiws are on plyometrics if you've used them before and what not. Thanks in advance for you help.

Holy Shit! I do remember you! I browsed your LJ like...... 2-3 years ago maybe, back when you had rainbow hair! I think I've seen some videos of you doing 540s and stuff.
