Timing reps and powerlifting days

I just thought I'd share a technique I've been following with success for a while now. It's the two seconds up, four seconds down principle. So basically on the lowering phase of a benchpress for example, I get my training partner to count backwards from four and then on the lifting phase count to two. You might want to read more about powerlifting, what the lifts are, etc. There's something called 'powerbuilding' that you may want to do some research on - I think it's a kind of PL/BB blend.

Another thing we've been experimenting with is a powerlifting day, one day a week. Normally we'll do a split week typical building program, but on Wednesdays we'll break it up with power lifting routine. Clean and press etc. Anyone else have similair or tips about doing this?

Of course, clean and press isn't part of powerlifting, but it's a great movement to do. Power cleans are a great upper back builder. Most people report good gains in shoulder and tricep mass when they do any kind of overhead pressing.

In general, "power" movements and other big compound movements work wonders for adding overall body mass. I'm assuming that mass is your goal.
