fun with exploding batteries, redux

Okay, Apple, you officially fail at battery-powered things. My iBook battery supposedly qualifies for the recall. This would be the battery that you shipped me during the last iBook battery recall.

Also, your web form lies like a rug. Please don't ask me what census block I live in when I call you about a new one.

is this something affecting all lithium ion batteries, or just certain ones?

If I understand this correctly, you can conceivably create a fire and explosion by intentionally shorting the cells of many a Li-Ion laptop battery, but some -- particularly in models recalled by Dell and Apple -- are kind enough to do so spontaneously, without voiding the warranty.

I really like the photo with the waiter in this related news article.

You get a new battery. I'm sad that none of my batteries qualify for the Dell recall; I'd really like to have (free) new ones (especially considering that the odds of one of my batteries actually exploding are approximately 0). I did get a new power adapter during a recall, however (I'm still using the old one, and it's been fine), so I've probably used up my quota of free stuff from Dell for the next few years.
