Pay people what they're worth.

I remember my dad fuming about academics who didn't pay decently. He was one of the ones who did. Reason #$bignum why I'm proud of him.

I believe at this point, they feel like you would be much happier performing that work than folding the shirts. They're doing you a favor...

In addition, they know that they have you between a rock and a hard place if you're interested in building a resume for either grad school or post-grad work.

Yup.

This isn't for *my* job, but a job in the same department and doing related work at only a slightly lower level of difficulty. Welcome to academia.

Don't even get me started. Clerical support runs the world. Most places would utterly shut down without it.

I read a work of fiction once where this little utopian society had created itself where everyone got paid the same, no matter what job they were doing. Sometimes, that sort of appeals...
