Rome didn't know what to do hen the girl rushes to him- his first instinct is self defense, to attack, but no, she's just a child, and she obviously isn't trained, the way she leaves herself undefended like that.

He doesn't react initially to Rhyme's arms around him, his own hanging limply by his sides as he merely watches her for a long moment, before slowly, awkwardly, patting at her shoulder.

"I am present."

"Apologizing isn't necessary."

Rome watched her for a moment, not returning the smile, instead affixing the girl with a curious little stare. After a few seconds of silence, he made a soft sound in the back of his throat and set his hand on her shoulder.

"You may stay for as long as you wish. I will protect you from harm."
