The room was familiar. For a moment, Negi felt panic rise in his throat - had he been sent home? If so, why wasn't he in the Magic World? Why was he back in the room that he, Asuna and Konoka shared?

Deep breaths. Negi began to rationalize everything, after the initial panic. He could still remember Adstringendum. He could still remember Al and Ed and everyone else, so he couldn't have been sent home. This must be a dream. A very lucid dream.

His spot up in the loft area of the room was what drew him first. The photo of his father's team, the map of Library Island, his various magical antiques laying here and there. Negi climbed the ladder, taking a seat at his workspace, running his fingers over he spines of the books. Everything was just as he remembered.

The moment Negi touches the books, he is filled with the memory of their expedition into the library... but through Asuna's point of view.

It begins, at first, with the challenge of forcing Asuna to be a good student -- and how hard she works to force herself to get on par with everyone else.

But soon it melts into the memory of the expedition itself -- the giant golem, the riddles, and finally ending in Negi standing before his students to fight off the golem.

You feel the briefest spark of fear and Asuna reaches out to grab Negi backwards with a yank so hard that the boy collapses into her arms.

"This final exam is also the final exam for you becoming a teacher or something, right? What's the point of taking the test if you aren't there to pass it?! Don't try to act cool, damn brat!"

The memory ends slightly after that, but there is the feeling of warmth afterwards -- a sort of nostalgic feeling.

Life had been a lot simpler back then.

The sudden jolt of memory was almost enough for Negi to pull his hand back. He didn't, but he did gasp as his vision was suddenly not his own.

The memories... A smile pulled at his lips, and even as it faded away, that smile didn't. He knew how hard Asuna had worked to do well on the exam, how hard they all had worked to make sure that the class had all passed. Everything had turned out well.

Things were much simpler then, indeed.

Negi peered around the rest of the room, looking at what else might be there. Only one thing was out of place - a large curtain. Curiosity piqued, he descended the ladder to check it out.

Should Negi pull back the curtain, a massive steel door is revealed. It is cracked down the middle and rusting -- it seems to be growing weaker with each passing moment, in very subtle ways, but there is definitely a feeling of foreboding as soon as the door is revealed.

Something is fighting to get out and something is holding it back.
