Thankfully, Roxas wouldn't have to wait long. It was almost as if Riku had been waiting for some kind of signal, something to alert him when Roxas came closer, when he started waiting. All day he'd been doing practically nothing, just sitting at the kitchen table and rolling the PCD across it, merely nursing a headache and... waiting.

He'd known the moment Roxas came back into the city. But he still couldn't bring himself to go out and meet him. No... he was going to be home for him, was going to just look up and see him there and say that it took him long enough. So, he stayed put, mentally tracking him, breathing slowly and deeply, able to pick up on the scent of that familiar darkness even from so far away ( ... )

Though he was waiting for Riku, Roxas was really wrapped up in this book. So when the other boy's darkness approached and neared him, he was only a little aware of it. It was the sound of footsteps that clued him in more than the darkness, and suffice it to say that Roxas was properly startled. He jumped up from his perch on the table, blue eyes wide as he found himself staring at the person he cared for most. For a few moments, he just watched in silence as Riku approached as if it were taking place in slow motion.

And then he set down the book and nodded, swallowing hard against the knot of emotion clogging his throat so as he could reply. "Yeah. It's about the friendship of a barn spider and a pig. It's... interesting." Now he was able to manage a tiny smile as he raised his head to look up at the older boy from beneath his bangs. "They're so different and it doesn't matter. From the first day they met, they're friends." Effortlessly, the boy then tilted his head, leaning it absently against Riku's shoulder with a sigh ( ... )

"A spider and a pig?" he raised an eyebrow up at that. He'd never read the book... or even heard of it, really, but just from those few words he was putting two and two together. Riku's no slouch, he may act like a moron sometimes, but that didn't mean he was actually an idiot or anything like that. No, he got the importance of what Roxas was saying, and as much as that head suddenly leaning against his shoulder distracted him, he could still figure it out.

So when Roxas glanced up at him and asked that, Riku wasn't surprised. Instead, he just closed his eyes and sighed a little. He knew what Roxas was talking about and... it really was about damn time that he told him. That he sat down and tried to convince the boy that that thing that hammered in his chest whenever they kissed, that thing that made him able to laugh and cry and shout and love... was his heart.

"Yeah, it can. No one's the same, Roxas. No one."

And then finally, finally Roxas was moving towards him, was wrapping his arms around him, and Riku... found ( ... )

"Mhm. The pig was gonna be slaughtered, but the spider... helped save the pig. I'm just on the last chapter of it." As in, he hadn't read that Charlotte was going to die yet. If he had, he would be even more upset than he already was. Even if the spider had lived to the limit of her lifespan, it would still bother him that she'd had to die and that the two couldn't be friends for a long time. His eyes were wide, both curious and pensive as he glanced up at the older boy with a thoughtful frown. "You really think so?" Because he was hoping so, oddly enough. This time, he really wanted for everyone to be able to get along. Even if he'd been an ass about it all so far.

"I know that. But he and I're like night and day. There's no getting anymore different from me than he is." Right now, he was referring to Ven. But Riku could probably tell that he was also speaking of Sora. These guys were heroes. People who'd drop everything in an instant to help other people. In Sora's case, it had come at the expense of abandoning his friends. Ven, ( ... )
