Kenta had nearly forgotten about the picnic in all of the ensuing drama, to be honest, but he still felt that it was rather a good idea. Felt, even, that he - and everyone else for that matter - deserved a chance like this to relax, after everything that had happened. He'd woken refreshed for the first time in days and spent a bit in the kitchen, fixing caramal apples to share and then setting out for the orchard.

It wouldn't do to worry about things right now; he'd stop by the picnic for a bit to relax and socialize, and then finish his day at Ginia's, singing, like he'd promised.

Smiling idly, he cast around for where to set his bag of treats.

Walking up behind Kenta, Maes reached over and patted the boy's shoulder. "Hello, Kenta! Thank you for remembering to bring something! Food goes right this way."

As he lead, Maes took the opportunity to look the boy over. "How are you doing? Is everything all right?"

Kenta jumped a bit at being approached so suddenly from behind but recovered quickly enough, offering the man a faint smile. Following closely at Hughes' heels, Kenta grimaced, wondering how long it was going to be before people stopped asking him that.

"I've got my voice back at least." He said after a moment. "Everything else, well... we'll just have to wait and see."

He caught the grimace, but wasn't sure what the source of it was. He tended to ask everyone how they were doing. Unless Kenta thought Maes was implying he was forgetful... Oh well. If it was a problem, it would come up later, Maes was sure.

"Good! I'm glad that was only an event. I think it was pretty rough on a lot of people." Maes nodded. "Time will tell. It likes to do that. So! Would you like a kite? Miss Asuna is flying one over there," Maes pointed, "or there's croquet or horshoes! We can play games with the water balloons later."

Rain had been wondering around the city for a few days now, and he hadn't seen anything--or anyone particularly remarkable, so when he spied the commotion happening in the orchard, he was--intrigued, to say the least. He walked to the gathering and looked around before walking to where the watermelons were placed. He shrugged and cut himself a small piece of melon.

Seeing the newcomer come all the way in, Maes approached him, smiling. "Hello! Welcome to the picnic! I'm Maes." He held out his hand for a handshake, in case the other man was amenable.

"Can I get you anything? Water, lemonade, a kite to fly?"

He smiled and put his watermelon on a plate and took Maes' hand and shook it warmly. "Lovely to meet you, Maes. I go by Methuselah, usually."

He looked around for a moment and shook his head with a grin.
"Not right, now, but thank you. What's all this for? This place seemed to be pretty dreary to me--but this is quite contrary to...well, everything I've seen here."

He laughed

"It's nice to meet you too, Methuselah!" The man's grip didn't show anything amiss, though Maes wasn't an expert in reading handshakes. It was just something he looked into for fun.

Maes beamed, looking around. "That's what it's for. We had a rough event last week, and sometimes it's nice to just get morale up. Besides, the seasons are changing. It will get too cold for picnics soon. We should do this while weather permits."

Skyler walked into the picnic but rather than say hello right off, because at the moment most people seemed to be conversing with other people, He found a low branch to lay on while he watched for anyone he felt would be good to talk to. Settling down on it, he let his tail dangle.

Unlike the hotspring party however, he'd remembered his PCD. His research of ways to communicate nonverbally with everyone weren't going too well at the moment. But that was fine really.

Konata looked over the picnic, another night and another odd party, even though it was not a costume party this time, the whole thing still looked the part. But even among the colorful residents of adsrtring a bright orange poke' monkey caught her eye.
"Yo! Skyler whats up?"

"Konata!" Skyler exclaimed, before remembering she couldn't understand him. Pulling out his PCD, he typed a greeting. "Hi! It's been a while since we last met. How are you?"

It was odd to talk to someone in front of you through a gadget but she would make an exception for the monkey. Pulling out her PCD Konata types out a message to the Pokemon.
"I'm good, I've been working on all the costume requests for Halloween."

Daxter hadn't been about to pass up free food, so he had been looking forward to the picnic. The Ottsel strolled into the orchard and right over to where the watermelon was laid out, spying a piece with his name on it in giant imaginary orange letters. Dashing over, he dragged it to a spot where he could sit and eat while watching the party.

As he took the first bite he entertained the thought of challenging someone to a seed spitting competition.

Maes laughed at watching the quick movement and shook his head. He couldn't stray too far from the blankets, he'd promised to protect Kuro, but he could at least give Daxter a wave, and he did so.

Daxter returned the wave with a broad grin. Maes was a pretty okay guy, kind of like the city-wide dad or something like that.

Cassidy had thought that Maes' idea for a picnic was brilliant. People really needed a calm friendly situation, especially after last week. And hopefully he wouldn't mind that she'd made some sugar cookies for the event.

She perked her ears as she walked into the picnic, feeling surpisingly cheerful. She hadn't been to a picnic since she was still a child. With a small smile she looked around for Maes.

Maes was easy to spot, mingling near the food and greeting people as they came in before trying to send them off to meet new people. He nodded as Cassidy came over. "Miss Cassidy! Welcome! And I see you brought something too! Here, let me."

He peeked into the bundle and smiled. "Cookies, excellent. They're always a favorite. Right this way to the rest of the desert items!" He lead her over, relieving her of her bundle and setting them down with everythign else.

"Thank you, Maes," Cassidy said with a small bow. "I didn't want to come empty-handed I hope everyone likes them." Looking around some she smiled. "This was a great idea. I'm glad everyone has you to help look out for their hapiness."

"You're welcome." Maes shrugged with a smile. "Some will, some won't, but they're still cookies." He bobbed his head in agreement. "I like the idea myself, too! Though I'm not going to take responsibility for everyone's happiness. That's too much to do. I help where I can."
