The more recent conversation with Tamaki had been also of the "vaguely troublesome at the time, but easily pushed aside once concluded" sort. Kurotsuchi hadn't thought much of what he had agreed to - whatever it was, anyway - since despite the initial insult goading him into accepting the offer, it wasn't something he had any real investment in.

It was early evening when the knock came, and like before, he initially couldn't recall why anyone would be bothering him at all, much less at this time of day. The scientist didn't generally have visitors, and Nemu could get in and out on her own; for all her flaws, she wasn't a cat who needed to be let in and out by scratching at the door.

It wasn't precisely late, but Kurotsuchi hadn't been planning on heading anywhere else for the day, and instead of more involved tests in the basement, he'd decided on concluding the evening by continuing work on several papers. Tamaki stared back, professional suavity momentarily derailed by Mayuri's unexpected appearance. Yet again, another comment that he hadn't expected - not that Kurotsuchi was entirely sure what to expect from this human - and his confusion showed for a moment, before he was able to switch to blank indifference.

"Why would I?" he questioned, having no clue where Tamaki would've gotten that impression.

"Why, it, I-" he began, coherently. Then he blushed, cleared his throat, and reconsidered his position. Pointing out the man's extraterrestrial origins was probably rude, and, Tamaki realised, he didn't actually know if all aliens had green skin.

"You're beautiful," he explained instead, simply. "Without make-up as well as with it. Usually, when people wear a lot of make-up, they want to hide something. I hadn't expected you to look so good."
