Doku wasn't sure what to make of the sight before him. It was a village made out of brightly colored plastic and wood toys and he was certain at least one wood boat or figurine had been carved by his own hands. He recognized the chips and scrapes and mistakes that had still been loved and cherished.

"What's going on here?" he mumbled to himself, pausing in front of the gate and key.

Little Gojyo peers at him from a distance, not understanding why his brother looks so much older. He wants to call Jien away from the village, but if anyone could beat mommy... Is that selfish of him? To want her to stop crying? He doesn't know.

Quiet sobs can be heard from the village as the key falls down and shrinks into a manageable size, almost like the people inside want Jien to open the door, want him in there.

Gojyo crouches, a bit scared. If Jien does open the door, he doesn't want to be seen by mommy.

The sound of a woman crying. He's heard that sound before and it claws through his heart, drawing back memories of not only the constant crying of his mother when she cried out in insanity or depression but in passion as well, but the memories of his younger brother who tried so hard not to cry when he had every reason to do so and he's not sure who he failed more.

Doku kneels down and reaches for the key before pausing, fingers grazing the sand. He swallows, dryly and stands up, still facing the gate.

"Gojyo! Are you around here?" he calls out, trying to keep his voice steady.

Gojyo takes a deep breath when Jien calls for him, but he's not going to hide from his brother. Not when his brother is calling for him. "'m here," he said a little quietly, before stepping forward and winding up a little behind and to the side of Jien.

Wide eyes peer up at him, making sure the guest is who he thought. "You got big. More big. Did you eat a lot?" In a way, it's nice to see that Jien has grown. A bigger Jien means more Jien to protect Gojyo.

He looks at the key on the ground, a little worried still. "You didn't pick it up."
