I would NEVER force anyone to read/watch ANYTHING.
I take PRIDE in the fact that I have not seen the second and third movies of the Star Wars Pre-quel. I have NEVER read LotR- though I love the movies, I just couldn't get into the books.
I also have stayed FAR away from the new Battlestar Galactia... Even after a friend went on ( and ON) about how much he love it... It just looked too depressing for me.
Can I ask if you guys have Torchwood up there? or would that be pressing a show on you? ;-)

You should take pride in not seeing the last two pre-quels, you didn't miss much :)
And yes, the LotR books are much harder to get through, but they have their charm as well. But like you, I far prefer the movies.
Yeah, I think Torchwood is being run on one of the specialty channels up here, but I have no idea when its on.
And its not so much as the forcing, its just the automatic... dismissing of the reasons I have for not being interested in watching something. I know my likes/dislikes pretty well and well, Firefly touches on a LOT of dislikes :) Hence my not wanting to watch it, hence my aggravation with people telling me no, I will like it.
First I want to agree with the auto-recommendation. I remember when the Attack of the Clones came out( second movie in the prequel). A guy who I knew- and didn't like just was totally ga-ga over it and telling EVERYBODY how cool and action packed it was... I told him that I had spoken to someone else(BFF) who lived/breathed/shat Star Wars for the past decade or so... and my FRIEND had told me the movie was bad- so I was going with my friend's recommandation instead of the guy who was raving about the fight scenes. Because I knew my friend had better taste then explosions=good! guy

I might have been one of those "you HAVE to watch Serenity and/or Firefly" (and to clarify, not that you care :), Firefly is the name of the cancelled TV series, and the class of ship they fly, whereas Serenity is the name of the motion picture based on the TV series, and the name of their actual ship, i.e. they fly Serenity, which is a Firefly-class ship) people, because like most people, since we share tastes in X, Y & Z, I just assume if *I* like XYZ, so will you! Which obviously isn't always true

Yes you do win, but the thing with Arrested Development was, I was interested to watch it in the first place as the few episodes I had caught I enjoyed very much, I was just never able to find the show consistently. Upon finally sitting down to watch the entire ovre, yes, I love it. And funny enough, Graig and I re-watched the first 5 episodes again the other night. There's money in the banana stand y'know

Really? Cause I remember practically begging you to check out Arrested Development, but you just had no interest (as opposed to having interest but being unable to remember it was on Fox on Sundays at 8pm ;) ) no matter how different and unique and damn funny I claimed it was

Yes, I've seen both seasons of the IT Crowd now, and I love it. The Red Door episode was brilliant, but I think my favourite has to be the first(?) episode of the 2nd season where Roy and Moss tag along on Jen's date to a musical. It's hilarious.
In general, as the astronauts have proven time and again, television programming sucks my asshole. If you love commercials, you'll love television. I'm not making this up. Gnome Chomp-sky was over for thai and told me I HAVE to NOT watch Firefly/Serenity. And I said, "Gnome, what the fuck?"
Then I had a dream about Ricky Gervais uttering spontaneous bop prosedy over Sarah Silverman doing some kind of lingerie performance art in a Trailer Park.
I dunno. Science can be wrong. Look at the periodicals table. Next to the card catologues. Where you order cards from the ghost of Simpson Sears.
