They don't have car rental places that pick you up? Or reimburse you for the taxi, if they are too understaffed to do pickups that day?

I don't know. When I grew up in Michigan, it was my understanding that a traveler needed to rent a car at the airport, or get a ride from a friend/relative/colleague/acquaintance in a private car. It's really quite different from Boston or New York.

Try Hertz - it looks like they will do pickup or taxi reimbursement if you can get to within 15 minutes drive of one of several hotels.

There are a few people we might be able to ask for help in getting to a rental place on Monday. evalerie and cherydactyl both occur to me as people who might be available if we're lucky.

This should be feasible. I am committed to a project at school on Monday morning, but could possibly provide a ride later.

OTOH, I believe Enterprise specifically promotes that they will pick people up, and they do have at least one rental location in the area??

Scott say Enterprise does pick people up. I don't know how that affects rental cost, of course.

Unfortunately, I don't have zipcar. I have been relying on my old car in the Boston area, rather than renting. But it would be a great idea. Thank you.

$55 to ride the shuttle from the Student Union to Metro? That's appalling.

Not quite that bad. This was another service, calling itself an "airport shuttle," that came out to the house in the snow so I didn't have to deal with getting to the Union. The house is easy to get to from campus, given good health, good weather, and no time pressure (or a car one is already driving towards I-94.) I couldn't rely on any of those for an early morning flight in January, of course.

Now the shuttle from the union is offering a special low rate. $30 each way. I expect they're not transporting as many business travelers as they did in previous years, so they're scrambling a bit.
