I thought it was simply a religious thing to remind them of what Jesus went through in the desert. Or a super-religious thing like the self-flagellation.

I gave up being a boy for Lent. :-p

It probably is... I don't know, not actually being religious and all. But I still think it's silly!

And you're totally not going to be able to last 40 days without being a boy... just so you know. :-P
