Smiling now! It was a great prompt, I can see why you went for it and did an excellent job too... I see you are ridding instead of riding that horse, I bet that was you projecting your inner Dean wishing he was rid of the annoying nattering family!
On a complete other tack - yours is the 2nd story recently to mention peach cobbler and I have no idea what that is..LOL
Thank you! And eek! LOL! Took me a moment to realize what you were saying with your Luke Skywalker comment and then I remembered the nasty scene you're talking about. Lol!
This is absolutely brilliant. I was lol (especially at the fact that Sam was that sweetheart who brought Dean pies) up to the the point where The old man died the night before Dean was discharged.. With those words, all the silliness of Dean's roommate and his loved ones turned somber yet sweet. For a brief moment, Dean had a glimpse of a normal family's love and loss. Heroes or ordinary people, they are all bounded in happiness and heartaches alike.

You have a typo near the end, btw:
"Frank died happy. To him, his son was never gone. Always stayed a little boy, riding in his horse."
Pretty sure you mean "riding on his horse." Unless Basil was an adept of Luke Skywalker. ;)

Damn, Dean. Why must you be so sexy?
...
Sorry, yes. Focusing now. That was a really gross scene, but funny as hell too!

Thank you. There is no greater reward than to see that someone got what the story was about :)
