[Before Alistair opens his journal, a loud yelp of surprise (that manages to sound equally incredulous) emanates from room 3138. Anyone within the vicinity has a gooood chance of hearing it.
[But before he can get any angry neighbors banging on his door, Alistair throws open his journal and addresses it.]
Ha haaaa! Veeeeeery funny, Zevran. I know

[He was having a nice nap, too. Now. There's only one thing to do.]
Oh, it is. Even the brightest minds can't seem to discern what it means.
[... be a bitch.]

[Among other things. Being so intimately familiar with anger as he is, that tone is impossible to miss.]
Name one. Just one.

[His anger knows no bounds, with that man. No bounds at all.]
Didn't I just name socks? They're a very serious issue with some people.
Reply
[To say the least.]
Besides the socks.

[Severely enough to want to sever his head ohohoho~]
Socks aside? Pants. Pants are another touchy issue. Even more touchy than socks. And more widespread.

[To the point of wanting to kill every last templar in existence, but still!]
You're never going to actually tell me, are you.

[Ahaha ... how little he knows.]
Tell you what? I've given you two stunning examples already!

[He snorts.]
No one would dare steal a mage's clothing.

[His oh-so-subtle way of saying, 'we weren't exactly close'.]
I wouldn't be too sure of that. One of my companions has already done so. Quite shamelessly, too.

[His not-so-subtle way of saying, "That was stupid".]
Hired an assassin, or stolen clothing?
Reply
[Those kinds give everyone a bad name.]
He stole clothing. Ran around with it, too. He was completely unafraid of any consequences.

You have no idea the kinds of atrocities mages face every day. When your precious Knight Commander isn't looking, I can guarantee you there are going to be templars harassing the mages, bullying them. Abusing them. You were trained as one of them. You've never been on the other side.
Until you have, you cannot sit there and tell me that prison of a tower is even remotely fortunate to be under anyone's leadership.
[Oh wow he's picking up momentum here.]
The only reason any mage would turn to blood magic, or consort with demons, is because of the oppression forced upon them by your precious Chantry and their templars!
[If you listen, there is a definite vocal distortion going on there.]
Reply
[He's the future King of Ferelden here, you were the one who reminded Varric of that.
And yes, he heard that vocal change, but he's hoping he doesn't actually have to talk to Justice.]

[Deep breaths. Right. Thoughts of Ser Pounce.]
[Okay.]
[Spirit back in the box.]
... No. No, he isn't.
