On Terri Schiavo

A great deal of press time has been devoted to making appear heroic the long suffering of Terri Schiavo's parents. While I would not wish to belittle their emotional reality, I cannot help but think that the wish for their daughter to "live" is nothing more glamorous than necrophilia--albeit a culturally-sanctioned form ( Read more... )

This is why I don't have to make posts. I merely wait for you to say what I think, and much better!

I think thanatophobia is the underlying cause, yes, but in the more mundane world I am deeply worried what this intereference in individual matters means for a supposedly-Republican government. I wonder what it is a symptom of, when the governor of Florida tries to make this woman/corpse his ward.

I hope that she hangs on at least through tomorrow. I don't want to think what our theocratic government would make of her dying on Easter Sunday.
