You are so much less geeky than I am. At 16 or 17 I found a copy of The Masks of Lear, which is basically a scene by scene critical study of the text using both literary criticism and stories/examples/reviews of how the play has been staged in the past (I have Hamlet and Lear and Othello now, MacBeth is a bitch to find and really fun because the play is so short that he padded it out with a chapter on theatre superstitions. I think one of the forwards mentioned he is doing either Anthony and Cleopatra Tempest next).
Anyway - I read that book, cover to cover, and kept a notebook of ideas for staging it someday.
I really, really want to stage some Shakespeare, somewhere, somehow. I was thinking about doing a play at Steller next semester, if I can find the time, but I'm not sure Shakespeare would be appropriate -- a lot of our good actors have graduated.
Has it occured to anyone that we get folks together and just do Shakespeare for the sake of Shakespeare? Maybe first approach the various head honchos we all know around town to see if they want to sposor us for a space or performances or something, but see if next semseter we can't pull something like that off? Do something along the lines of Al Pacino's Finding Richard? Cause I'd sure as hell go for that, especially since my workload will be much more manageable.
