SUMMER VACATION~~~ Or Adi's near-death experience.

May 29, 2007 14:10

After a bunch of computer problems, eeking out a B in Algebra for the year, and actually completing the Phys. Ed. final challenge [running 'round the track nonstop for twelve minutes solid], I've managed to jump into summer with my sanity relatively in tact. Yay for me!

For Memorial Day weekend, my parents, sister, and  I did the family thing and ( Read more... )

=O That's an awful thing to have happen when you were being brave/optimistic about going into the water.

Blah, parents can be awful like that sometimes. >\ I don't think it's fair or right for a parent to say something like that to their child, especially in a heated situation. Maybe another time, during a calmer conversation, okay, but not like that.

Don't give up on him! S'too early for that (yeah, you're going to say "But it's been (x) number of years/since I was born!" but consider how long he's lived without you there or under his parents' thumbs or anything else). Just quitting on someone doesn't do anyone a whole lot of good. :3

Stay strong, dear. ♥

;_; I know! I got sunburned, too! I guess the ocean just doesn't like me. XD

I know what you're saying is very wise. But sometimes it's hard not to when I feel like he's given up on me.

Sunburn sucks. I always get sunburnt, but then I shun sunscreen like it's the plague.

I understand that feeling. Odd though it may sound (and possibly contradictory to what I said before), wouldn't you like to be better than him in that respect? If anything, you'd always be able to say you never gave up, and that's very, very powerful.

Yeah, well I had to endure the sunscreen and I still got the burn! Probably won't be able to wear a stupid bra for weeks...[TMI, huh?]

Yanno, I really, really would like to be better than him. I guess I'm just going to have to work on thinking about that before I mouth off...

That sucks! *hugs* And yeah, my dad can be like that too, sometimes. Good thing I don't see him that often...

But yay, summer vacation!

Rip tows suck. And I'm sure it was very scary. But I went to the beach every year for about twenty years, and in my non-stop playing in the waves, I never had one get me. So don't let it totally turn you off the water. (The sand and fear of jellyfish I can understand, though. They're commonplace worries and annoyances ( ... )

I'm not completely turned off; don't worry! I was just kind of marveling at the irony in the worst happening when I try being optimistic. It struck me as kind of funny.

I totally understand the logic in your suggestion. I'll really make a bigger effort to be more calm around him, but he just has this way of elevating everyone's emotions toward even the pettiest of things. It's funny that you say "cycle", because that's exactly what it feels like. Sometimes I love him, sometimes I can't stand him, and I just can't settle on a single perception of the man. I know sometimes my venting paints him as really one-sided, but he isn't--that's what tends to infuriate me. Some days he's like a really good teacher; others, he's like a simple jerk. It confuses me, and I hate that!

Don't pay attention to Dad. He's just stressed. And you're not giving an accurate portrayal of the undertow incident... CAN YOU SAY NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE

My dad does that too, misplaying things and blaming them on me. 8|
