War’s grieving Shieldmaiden - Adira's arrival on Babylon 5

Manni: "Lola?"
Lola: "Hmh?"
Manni (curious): "If I was dying right now, what would you do?"
Lola (determined): "I wouldn't let you die."

Adira looked out the shuttle’s small window at the station and cringed. She tried to block out the memories not just of her time on board and the betrayal of the man who now lay dying but of her slavery in ( Read more... )

Vir, exhausted from fielding several calls from homeworld that simply could not wait, starts when he enters the Med Lab and sees the veiled woman weeping over Londo's still form. For a long moment, he stands at a distance, dumb. Then, following a growing hunch, he murmurs,

Lady Adira?

Adira had long since lost her voice from her tears. She heard the question or perhaps a statement her thoughts weren't coherant enough at that moment to do much outside of recognizing the string of sounds as her name. She slowly looked up. "Vir!" she tried to speak but no words came out only a hoarse squeaking sound.

Shaking still she attempted to take a few steps toward the man standing near the door. She nearly stumbled, her legs to weak to carry her body. She stood clinging to the bedside and swallowed hard.

Vir.

Her voice was small and as shakey as her legs. Clearing her throat again she forced her voice as she held her hand out to him.

Vir, please tell me I am in a nightmare and I will wake from this horror.

She had been waiting now for nearly two hours to wake from the nightmare and it had yet to happen. Adira sighed heavily turning back to Londo. The tears threatened to start again as she laid her hand back on his.

Alarmed at Adira's obvious emotional exhaustion, Vir crosses the room and envelopes her in a tight hug without a second thought.

I'm so sorry,

he whispers into her ear. Then, after one last affirming squeeze, Vir lets go, fetches a chair, and gently guides Adira into it. A moment later, he offers her a white handkerchief, his chubby face filled with earnest sympathy and distress.

Don't lose hope yet, milady. Dr. Franklin is still searching for a solution. And... and he's one of the best xenobiologists in the Earth Alliance.

Adira clings to Vir. More then anything at the moment she needed comfort and strength. She sits tentatively and takes the kerchief.

At his words she looks up at Vir before glancing at Doctor Franklin and the Centauri standing with him across the room.

I hope you are right Vir.

Beneath her veil she smiles a bit. Vir's words were renewing the flicker of hope that she had been holding on to.

I have brought a friend as well. I guess you could say such happenings are his specialty.

She sighs and as she speaks there is a small amount of hope in her voice.

I hope they find something... she glances at Londo... and that he has the strength to endure until that hope is found.

Watching her in silence Ta'Lon's expression grows sad and pained. Watching his friend suffer like this pains him and he feels frustrated to do anything about it. The details though vague certainly seems suspicious in every sense of the word. His history during the first Narn occupation tells him the booby-trap is believable enough but why wouldn't it have set off when Mariel handled it? The technology is crude and direct so that such details of Male and or Female anatomy would make no difference in it's activation. But then even that seems like a weak suspicion given the fact the gift probably wasn't wrapped by her no doubt whomever sold it was the one who handled it.

But something still doesn't seem right and he wonders if perhaps he should look into this matter a little further...

Alexia was about to leave when he saw the woman enter and heard the greeting from Adira. He visibly cringed and recognizing the Narn decided now was the time to recruit help should he need to drag Adira from one of his wives. He bows slightly and whispers

Seems we should keep an eye out now for trouble.

With a smirk

More from Adira then the others I should think.

Ta'Lon notices Alexia's reaction and raises a brow slightly.

Is something the matter? It is only Lady Timov.

He studies Adira for a moment and furrows a brow slightly in confusion.

Really? It's not like Lady Timov is that close to the ambassador. I hardly imagine what threat she'd pose to Adira or Londo for that matter. She's just outspoken that is all if I recal correctly.

Alexia frowns

She doesn't have to be. Adira is not jealous of thier closeness but of thier title, of the place they hold that she can't.

He shakes his head.

I don't think she will start anything with Lady Timov but Lady Mariel and Lady Daggiar, well that is another matter.

Eventually they are all going to find thier way here at once. That my Narn friend is surely a recipe for war.
