Costa Ricans mostly prefer to swim in the rivers than the oceans because of the rip currents. Except not at that river--there was a rather large crocodile in the nearby creek!

I must be out of the closet in multiple forms of geekdom: I'm currently wearing a hand-dyed Microsoft tee-shirt, a formerly white conference shirt that I threw in a dye bath last summer along with a linen table cloth and napkins I made.

I actually got caught in a (very weak) rip current that weekend, but I just let it carry me out beyond the breakers and then swam out of it. More like using a moving sidewalk than being "caught."
