I registered for classes today. And I renewed my license, and I got a new social security card. They didn't say anything to me about something being wrong, which was weird. You got a new social security card or a new number entirely?

I think the least Target could have done was to let you know what had come up in the background check so you could do something about it. One of the staff at my last agency always had negative background checks, and she had to say up front that it would come back negative due to someone stealing her identity. She had a letter from the Massachusetts government stating this.

I got a new card. I told them I lost mine.
And I think that if there was anything wrong, they would have been like "no, we can't give you a new card because _____"
