So, I can't get a job. For some reason, my background check won't clear anywhere I've applied. I've "gotten jobs" three different times in the past month - but every time they run the background check, they're like "oh, sorry, jk. you can't work here and we can't tell you why. it has something to do with your background check not clearing

Check out this website. They have advice for what to do if you suspect identity theft:

At the beginning, they have the phone number to a hotline where you can get more specific advise.

The hotline looks like a good resource for finding out if that's what happened. It sucks that the people who were interviewing you couldn't be straight forward and let you know if the background check revealed a criminal history.

it's weird that they can't/won't tell you what didn't clear. that doesn't make sense.
